Questions children might have.

Who do I contact for help with my login?
You will receive an email with your login details, please check your spam folder if you can’t find it. If you are still having any difficulties using the website please contact admin@youngbudsaward.com.

What do I need to do to submit a challenge?
They need to provide evidence of their new skills!  To do this they upload a maximum of 6 photos, or 1 short video (ensuring the max file size is no bigger than 100MB in total.)  If they would like to show more you can! They can use a storage space such as google or dropbox.  Here are some instructions of how to set these up.

The system will not accept my evidence. What should I do?
There is a limit to the file size they can submit for each challenge. The max file size is 100MB.  If the file is bigger than 100MB please upload to another site such as Google drive, Dropbox etc and simply submit a link to your photo, video or document. For details how to use Google Drive/ Drop box please click here.

Do I need to wait for one challenge to be approved before starting another?
No, they can be working on multiple challenges at the same time. Some challenges have to be done over a period of time so best they have a look through and choose which challenges they would like to work on and work out when they will be able to do them.

How many challenges do I need to complete?
Children need to complete and submit evidence for 8 of the 10 challenges in your level to finish the award.  However, they can complete all 10 challenges if they would like!

When will I receive my certificate and badge?
Once the children have submitted evidence for 8 of the challenges they will receive a soft copy of the certificate automatically. Children love a certificate so feel free to print and present at an assembly to celebrate their hard work.  The badges will be sent to you to present as well.  An assembly is a great way to encourage the children to keep going with the challenges.

Questions teachers might have!

Which level do I sign up for?
Different countries call different cohorts of children different names!  See below and if you are unsure please ask.  The challenges are age appropriate for the relevant ages.

Depending on the ability of your cohort of children, you are able to choose a lower level children in order for success!  Reach out to us and we are happy to discuss.

How long does it take to complete each level?
Each level is designed to take approximately one academic year to complete. Children need to submit 8 challenges and are able to upload videos, documents or photos to show off your new skills. It is not a race to finish each level, rather an opportunity to practice a new skill until they are confident able to complete the challenge independently.

How do I approve a challenge?
When a child has submitted a challenge, if you are their “approver” you will receive an email.
More details of how to approve coming soon!

What do I do if I feel they have not completed the challenge correctly?
Please do not approve a challenge if you feel they need to show more evidence. A quick discussion with the child always helps point them in the right direction.  On the approval screen click “try again” rather than approve and they can have another go at uploading their evidence.

How do I access the certificates, so I can print and present?
Details coming soon.

What can I do to encourage the children who have not started their challenges?
Sharing the submissions that have been completed can really help encourage children to get started. That might be in class or even in assembly. Asking the children to share which is their favourite challenge can also help. Once certificates and badges are presented in assembly you will see more challenges being submitted by those who are still working on the award.  They will be looking forward to being recognised and presented their certificate and badge!

When will I receive the medals?
Once your registration has closed we will send the medals to you. We aim for all children to complete the award, however if there are children who do not complete it, and are not awarded the medal please keep the medals safe and the following year we will take the number left over into account. We want to avoid them being thrown in the landfill.

How can I make a suggestion to improve the Young Buds Award?
We are always open to suggestions and ideas to improve the Award. Please send any ideas to admin@youngbudsaward.com

Please feel free to use, or edit, the wording below to launch the Award to your parents.

Dear Parents,

We are excited to introduce the Young Buds Award, a unique life skills program designed to empower children in Hong Kong through engaging and practical challenges. Nowadays, schools tend to focus on children’s academic skills and leave out the essential practical life skills needed to be independent later in life, causing many children to leave school without the ability to flourish in our world today.  Do you want your child to be independent, equipped with vital skills in order to thrive in life and grow into a happy confident child?

What is the Young Buds Award?

The Young Buds Award is a program where children will complete a series of fun, age appropriate, challenges focused on essential life skills, foster a connection with nature, and promote overall well-being. There are different Levels of the award, each with 10 challenges to choose from. Children complete 8 of these challenges over the academic year and submit photos or videos to showcase their new skill via the Young Buds secure online portal.  They will be cooking, learning domestic chores and first aid skills as well as exploring Hong Kong and developing relationships with those around them.
